Hi everyone,

I'm just curious if Steve's keynote from the WWDC in June will be webcast, so that we can see him discussing Panther live. Are webcasts typically done at the WWDC? I know they do them for Macworld, but not sure about the WWDC.

Thanks!

No, they arenīt. WWDC is expensive and aimed to developers. MacWorld Expo are not.

But those that said 'yes' or 'yeees', how do you know it?, could you post a link please?

Thanks in advance.

It wasn't broadcast last year, although a couple of websites had a live transcript (they had someone in the audience on IRC I think). I suspect the same will happen this year.

I doubt it will be a public webcast. Might be on ADC TV though.

Yes, they are.

There is no link yet. All WWDC keynotes are available via satellite, three of the last four since 1999 have been webcast live, and all four were available as an archive shortly after the keynote. The decision on whether to webcast live is made within the days before the event.

And Macworld Expo is just as expensive, probably moreso, than WWDC.

Isn't everything covered under the keynote under non-disclosure? I'm sure if they demo Panther it is going to be under a non disclosure agreement...

The keynote is the only "public" session at WWDC. It is also open to the press.

Correct.

With that said, it's generally not webcast. However, last year, I remember a QuickTime of the event being posted after it occurred.

It would be nice if the Mac OS X 10.3 introduction were webcast. Apple has to get the word out on new features/changes before its release at some point. And if the rumors are correct and a late September release date is the target, then there is not much time between WWDC and the 10.3 release. So it would make more sense to release the broad details publicly from WWDC by some means to get the public pumped up about it.

As for the other places to announce this, CREATE doesn't seem the right place to do it. A special event much like what Apple did with the new iPods/music service might seem like too much. And a press release/website update might seem like too little.

So in my opinion, if certain upper management can let their egos subside for a while, a WWDC webcast would be perfect for this.

The WWDC 10.2 preview wasn't streamed... I remember the rush for the developer preview CDs to be uploaded to *cough*carracho*cough* just to see what was included...

Also the 'death' of OS 9 at the WWDC also wasn't streamed etc etc It is just not a public event...

As someone above said, I'm also pretty sure alot of the stuff at WWDC would be under NDA of some sort, so I think a stream may be out of the question...

Then again, what do I know?

Peace,

Marc

They WWDC keynote is not under NDA, and media/press are even invited. All other sessions are, however, under NDA.

i was talking to the guy in charge of developing new versions of os x, and he wouldnt say a thing about the new version! it was like he had been trained or something. he did say that the new version would be introduced at the thing in june, so does this answer any questions? he also said that the closest anyone would get to any answes before then would be the rumor mills on the internet. oh well.

If history is any example, the WWDC keynote will not be webcast.
