I have used CCC to clone my start-up drive since 10.1.? and have not had any issues with it. I have cloned to partitions and external firewire drives and have always been able to boot from them.
However, now that I have upgraded to 10.2.6, I find I can no longer boot from the clone, if it is on an external FW drive. This same drive worked without a problem through all previous updates.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Can you select the firewire drive in the Startup pref pane? If so, what happens whan you try to start up from it? Flashing ? mark?

I cloned 10.2.6 to my Firewire drive, and it shows up as a valid OS in the Startup pref pane, but I haven't actually tried booting from it, yet. 10.2.6 was a pretty minor update-- I don't think anything was added that should disrupt CCC's ability to clone the OS. Maybe try the clone again, and double-check that the "make bootable" option is checked in CCC prefs.

hi chris, i had the make bootable option on and I tried to do it twice. It does show as a bootable system in start-up disk pref pane. I see that it is a not so uncommon problem after finding bombich's user forums. It starts to boot and sits on the apple screen with the widget that never stops turning. It never gets to the blue screen. I think I will startup in verbose mode and see what is going on.

Maybe try running DiskWarrior, and fix permissions on the partition you want to clone from.
