Has anybody tried formatting their hard drive and inserting the OSX CD to install?? It would be quite nice to have the price of the PC hardware running a MAC OS.

It just won't work. Totally different processor architectures. The CD probably won't even boot.

Anyone who tells you that "their mate is porting OS X to Intel" is either lying or mistaken with Darwin.

Ha, you can't even read the CD with a PC...
(without something like MacDrive of course)
mc786030, perhaps you've been reading about how Apple is apparently keeping an x86 build of OS X in the works. I believe it does exist, but it's not available outside of Apple.

Well, you can't have Quartz, QuickTime, Aqua, iTunes and all that....
But you can port and install Darwin onto any system you want! And what do you know!?! It already runs on x86!
Now all you have to do is compile and run X11 on it, make a WM that acts and looks like Quartz (or better yet, QuartzExtreme!!) and Aqua, write a few apps like iTunes, Mail, NetInfo Manager, Safari, AddressBook, Finder, and iCal yourself, then *BAM* OS X on X86!!!

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!! Another OSX on x86 post!!
The only people that can run true OS X on PCs are Apple with the 'Marklar' builds, I presume kept for a time of extreme emergency should it ever become necessary to save the company.
Peace,
Marc

I don't even post that much and I'm sick of these OS X on PC threads. Please people, for the love of god, don't say anything about OS X being ported to Intel or AMD or anything until Apple puts it on their home page.

I actually think it's interesting to talk about the effects OS X would have on the PC world should there be an alternative.
I know a few friends that would try it out... if the drivers were there, some would probably stay.
I also get pissed that I have to shell out $3000 every couple of years for a good Macintosh computer (I know I'm getting a better, more stylish, more reliable system, but those damn eMachines make me wonder.)

Correction thats 1 Infinite Loop, you must be confused by Pixar's "To Infinity and Beyond". I always wondered about that quote, just how purposeful was it?

I imagine Marklar is kept very safe. Definitely no seeding it to developers or anything like that. And if it never leaves Apple, if it got out, there'd only be the Marklar team to blame.

I'm sure it's not something that they spend all that much time maintaining. It would probably only run on a handful of processors / motherboards / sound cards / NIC cards / video cards / etc.
That is one of the main problems with a major port. Writing drivers for the OS.

Wait, that was a serious question? My friend has it running on his dual Xeon. Says it's plenty snappy. *dodges flying produce*

What have you been smoking? eMachines are the lowest quality piece of trash in any technological market. The only thing they could possibly be used for is the iLoo.

Agreed. In a dire situation, it'll be their lifeboat.
Anyway... just about *every* person I know would run OSX if it was available on the PC.
