Hi

in os9, i had one computer with filesharing turned on. and on my "client" computer, i can mount the hd on my computer (throught ethernet) and copying files between the drives speed wise was exceptable...

Now that i have 2 osx machines, i (thought it would be the same...computer A, i went to sharing and turned on files sharing. computer B mounted A's hd.

HOWever, when copying between drives, it becomes a "download" from A to B...like downloading from the internet, taking forever to do so.

Help What aam i doing wrong?

Thanks

Hrrrmmmm...

So basically in OS X your file sharing is lagging. That's odd. Can you make sure the server is "awake" before you test the file transfer? Long shot I know.

You didn't mention if you are using a switch to connect them, or if you are connecting each other directly with a single CAT5 cable. The single biggest problem I have seen when using a switch, is auto-negotiation problems, which leads to real slow copying, general just one way, not both.
Look into your console and see what speeds they are negotiating their connections at.

Check the IPs of both machines. They are probably on different subnets. This would mean that file transfers are going across the internet, instead of the LAN.
The IPs should be:
x.x.x.y
and
x.x.x.z
...where x.x.x is the same on both. The number of digits in each group is irrelevent. Change them to the same subnet or connect them to a DHCP server.
