My friend wanted to change his login name and short name on his ibook
so i opened up netinfo to make the changes because he is the only user of the system
i've done this a couple times before without problems but this time i forgot to change his login name in the admin group settings

because he is the only user of the system there is no admin user anymore
so i am unable to fix the problem because i cant get admin privaleges

How can i fix this?
is there a way to login as root without enabling the root acount in netinfo?
is there a default root password created by apple that i can use since no root password was ever set?

thanks

Startup from the install CD and choose reset password from the menu. All set.

no. But with an other OS X system you could tweak the netinfo files. You'd just need to boot the ibook in disk mode.

No

i've thought about tweaking the netinfo files

they are in /private/var/db/netinfo/local.nidb
right?

i'm kinda afraid to mess things up more by editing those files and screwing up the formating or something

i'll try the boot from cd first next time i get my hands on his ibook

thanks
