I work as an IT Specialist for the Wharton SoB. A professor in my department recently purchased a 17" powerbook. It came preinstalled with OS X.2.5. The problem he is having concerns saving files created in WordPerfect. As many know, WP was discontinued by Corel for mac developement, so he is using a version that will work with 9.2 and run in classic mode. He is able to use it just fine, however he cannot save any of his files to the hard-disk. He can only save them to external media (whether hard drives, zips, etc.). Basically when he tries to save the file to the hard disk, it notifies him that it is full. However, there is plent of space as he has about 50+ GB available. There is only one partition on the system for use with OS X. I am not sure if he is able to dual boot, and according to some posts I have read, Apple has taken out the feature that allows for dual booting between OS X and 9.2. I am new to OS X as well and am deeply confused by the issue. If anyone else with more experience with the OS can clue me into what to do, it would be a great help. Thanks,
just what i feel like doing sometimes

I'm assuming that all of your permissions are correct and he does have permission to write files to the folder that he is trying to save to.
I know nothing of using WordPerfect under X. Maybe it is one of the things that does not work correct in classic.
As a work around could you use Disk Copy to make a disk image that is mounted and he could save to that?
It may be time to move to another word processor. I personally loved using WriteNow, but times change and now I use Word.

My guess is that WP does not know how to deal with large, multi-GB volumes. I've seen other, extremely old Classic apps (which WP is) have problems with large hard drives. They simply weren't designed to handle large volumes. I believe they can only handle up to 2GB, which is the HFS volume limit.

Looks like he will have to switch to using Word instead - it should be reasonably cheap in the university system.
Word should be able to read WP files.
Time for him to switch to an OS X app - I know he won't like it but unless he trades the 17 inch in for a 15 inch (which can dual boot) then I think he's stuck.
