For the last 6 months my mail.app has been invisibily BCCing new@new.com. Obviously this bounces a day or two later. So for every email I send out I get it to bounce. I think a long time ago I might have installed something from version tracker that showed the bcc header all the time in mail.app. I have no clue what it was, but I believe it no longer exists. When I expand the headers in any outgoing mail I don't see anything in the bcc. But after the message is send I can show all headers and I will see this:

Bcc: new@new.com

I need a fix that doesn't involve losing all my mail.app settings or reinstalling OS X

Help!

not sure if this is what you are talking about but take a look at the Message menu and see if you selected the Bounce to Sender option.

Try typing the following in Terminal:

defaults delete com.apple.mail UserHeaders

For more information, see the discussion at Mac OS X Hints:

I tried that and this is the reply I got:

2003-05-18 12:59:24.500 defaults[4547]
There is no (UserHeaders) default for the (com.apple.mail.) domain.
Defaults have not been changed.

Thanks for trying to help me still no go .

I'm not clicking the "bounce" button. I used to use it but it's something you have to click everytime. I just click "send"

That doesn't delete it but I performed this and look what I find!

SHELL% defaults read com.apple.mail UserHeaders

{Bcc = "new@new.com"; }

I played around with it some more and got it! Thanks so much!

Good to have people here who knew!

Wow scary. Basically I can go to any of my friends machines. Type this and without their knowledge I can get a copy of all their emails they send out.

Glad you got it fixed!

That would be a sneaky trick to play on someone (to get BCCed all their emails), but if you have access to their account there are all sorts of nasty things you could do if you were so inclined.
