Hi,
I'm new to darwin and wish to learn more about it. Does anyone have any good pointers for me? The name of a good book about it or a web page. Something that can get me going with some commands and other good stuf for a newbie?
Thanks
Nick

What do you want to learn specifically? Easy server tasks, using the command line?

If you don't have experience with UNIX/Linux, "Learning UNIX for Mac OSX" O'Reilly Press, is a good start. Even if you do have some experience, it is still a good book. IMO
Once you learn it, a whole new world opens up for you.
good luck.

You'll find some pointers on the Opendarwin.org's web site under documentation. May I also suggest you take the time to read Apple's DAwrin maili,ng lists archives available at lists.apple.com ?

Where can I download the Darwin code for X86 machines? I have an old PC and would love to load Darwin on it. I have to take a unix course anyway and why wait to learn.

Darwin can't build itself too easily, it has recursive dependencies which take lots of intervention to get rid of. Apple has binary ISO of 6.0.2 here, OpenDarwin has binaries of Apple 6.0.2 and "OpenDarwin 20030212" here.
Be aware that Darwin x86 supports very, very little hardware.
From Darwin/x86 6.0.2 Installation Notes:
Supported Hardware
------------------
IDE:
Only the PIIX4 IDE controllers have been found to work.
Attached devices must be UDMA/33 compatible or better.
Ethernet:
Intel 8255x 10/100 ethernet controllers are supported.
Video:
You must have a VESA 2.0 compliant video card. Almost all
modern graphics cards are VESA 2.0 compliant. However, emulators
such as vmware do not have VESA 2.0 compliant emulated video cards.
Successfully tested hardware:
All 440BX motherboards tested have worked with their internal
IDE controllers.
IBM ThinkPad A21m (with onboard Intel ethernet)
Known to not be supported:
All AMD and VIA based systems.
