Hi
I have seen a few complaints from people who tried to icon customizing software candybar that it screwed up the functioning of their OSX-based computer.

I am looking to put some Matrix-specific icons, or ideally a Matrix-code-like screensaver on my Mac.

Anyone know if this can be found out there? Is there any way to introduce this kind of graphic change that is safe to the OS?

I don't know of any Matrix-like screensavers, but screensavers are easy to install. Just put them in home/library/screen savers.
Or, if you have a folder with a bunch of Matrix pictures in it, you can just set OSX's "Screen Effects" preference pane to play those pictures as a slide show.
If you don't want to use CandyBar, then you can change icons manually. Just select the file with the Matrix icon, press Command-i (Get Info), click the icon in the top left of the Info window, and press Command-c (copy). Then, select the file/folder that you want to put that Matrix icon onto, Get Info, select the icon, and press Command-v (paste).

For what it's worth, I haven't had any trouble with CandyBar.

It's an app that helps you customize the icons found in the toolbar of the Mac OS X finder. You can see it here:

Search for "red pill" on MacUpdate.com

Seriously, desktop pictures, screensavers are the safest things to install

as for icons, it depends how much towards the system you are going to get. If you are going to touch folder or files icons, no prob...
but, for Finder toolbar or system icons, you would need CandyBar

I probably should have mentioned as well that I haven't had any problems with it either. The newest version, just released, is supposed to compatable with Mac 10.2.6.
