Occasionally I have a curious problem with Mac OS X (10.2.6). Dragging in one application suddenly stops working - if it's the Finder, I can't even drag files from one position on the Desktop. This symptom eventually spreads, and soon I can't drag anywhere. I can still drag to select text or icons, but I cannot drag those icons anywhere even in the same window. The first question is thus: has anyone seen this?

Trying to fix this is frustrating. Rebooting helps, but I don't want to do that this time (have some daemons running). Logging out and back in doesn't help. Killing the Window server doesn't help. Logging on as >console, which should kill all of Aqua and just leave the kernel and the daemons, doesn't help. My conclusion is that some daemon is misbehaving, but which one? What handles drag'n'drop (as I suspect that that is where the problem lies)? Killing pbs, the pasteboard server, doesn't seem to work either, and anyway logging out does that.

Just thought I'd let you know you're not alone. I experienced this in the Finder for the first time last week. Very odd - couldn't drag anything anywhere. hasn't happened since though...

Yeah, I have had it too. Usually requires a restart.

I've been there too.

Hope they fix this.
