I want to get the latest Safari Update and all the Mac sites recommend updating Safari via the Software Update panel but it still isn't showing up when I click "check now" since it was released ?

Would living in Australia have anything to do with this ?

Have you already installed Safari? If not, you need to download it from http://www.apple.com/safari/

The updates only show up right now if some previous version of Safari is already installed.

If you do have Safari installed, it MUST be named Safari.app and be in /Applications in order for updates to show up.

thanks
after moving Safari from where Apple originally put it ie in the Mac osx Applications folder I found that I couldn't change the name but immediately got Safari Updated anyway after clicking check now.

this little experience actually does a good job highlighting some of the more problematic areas of getting around OS X

I am trying to understand why almost all other Software Updating of the standard software that Apple gives us automatically updates without moving any of these packages, similarly there are many pecularities of where certain elements of packages are put when one installs Mac OS X and learning via installing 3rd party packages that some elements of the OS helps the system behave better if they are put in other locations, I am sorry I can't quite remember any of these instances except that some 3rd party browser plugins are more accurately articulated in their placement via their read me files whilst many packages neglect to mention where elements or even entire packages should be placed.

I often think of problematic areas of Mac OS X when I'm using it but often have difficulty finding the time and patience to articulate these concerns or worse still even remembering these experiences, I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this regard !
