I want to back up my music on my old Gateway which I have in the basement. It happens to have two 20GB drives in it.

The problem is that some of my music files are bad or missing, I just don't understand. As I start to copy it over it will go for a bit and them tell me that there is a file missing for parts are missing and it will quit.

I don't want to sit there all night finding out which ones are the trouble. Is there a way to get it to continue with the other files? Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Timmy

I have this problem a lot when filenames contain characters that the Mac doesn't think Windows should be able to support, even though it does under all the more recent versions of Windows. Usually, it is the [ ] characters that get me. The finder will give some stupid error about the file not being found when it hits a file with those in the name.

Are we talking a seperate music folder or the music folder iTunes creates?

To get rid of characters PCs don't understand use a utility like Better Finder Rename. It will allow you to find and replace those characters.

It is my iTunes folder. If I go changing names, will that screw with iTunes?

Yes. You can reimport the files after you change them, or you can change the name in iTunes and it will change the name of the file (assuming the files are under control of iTunes, and that you didn't import them without copying them to your music folder.)

Sounds like a corrupted directory.

I find a consistent problem when copying over long image sequences from my windows share. For some reason my mac will omit certain frame numbers (usually frame 75 or 81 - why, I don't know).

I have to disconnect and connect again to *see* the missing files.

Whasup wid dat?
