i have this external maxtor firewire hard drive, and it shows up as the name i assigned to it in the finder, but today another hd showed up (same as the external one) but it was called 'NO.NAME) or sumthin, when i get info it says
its shows up a Macintosh PC Exchange(MS-DOS), taking up 256k of my external HD. why is this showing up ike this?
the icon for my external hd still there, but this other (no name one) shows up as well

It sounds to me like some of the unpartitioned space on the drive is showing up for some reason. There's usually (always?) extra space on hard disks that isn't used when a format is done.
As for why it's showing up, I have no idea.
