After realizing that the album artwork uses a lot of disk space (especially in relative terms on the iPod) I am looking for a way to get rid of it again.
Does anyone know a way to do this? I don't like to go through 2000+ files individually and delete the artwork image by image!

Thanks

Tobias

I figure the artwork takes up less than 2% of the space, so for me it's not a big deal. Instead of 50 songs, I can only have 49 in the same space.

But to answer your question, I don't know how to do it, although I think Applescript might be the direction in which I'd start looking.

highlight every song, and then go to get info...or whatever, and click the checkbox by the album art. it will remove it for every song.

thats what i do on my iPod, i keep em on my mac.

the exact instructions may be a little off...im on my PC, but you get the point.

You could also use the latest version of MP3 Rage 5.6 which has a built in artwork browser that allows you delete all artwork...

An essential app if you have a lot of MP3's, the GraphicConverter for MP3's

Someone in another thread claimed that deleting the artwork doesn't decrease the filesize. Can anyone confirm this?

I just picked a song with artwork, noted the size, deleted the artwork, rechecked the file size, and verified that it decreased by a corresponding amount.

Apparently the poster in the other thread doesn't know what he is talking about.

My guess is he/she looked at the size the Finder reports, which isn't exact to the byte.

Yup, by cleaning out all the artwork I freed up enough space on my iPod for 2 or 3 CD's worth of more music.

Remove all album art for the sake of having room for 3-4 CD's? What's the point? The cool factor of album cover art far outweighs adding a few songs to a 2,000 song collection, IMO.
I don't need no stinkin' signature!

Hmm. If the iPod showed those covers in full color, I might agree. As it is, I get no benefit from them since I do 95% of my listening on my iPod. The point of the iPod is music, and having more of it far outweighs the pretty pictures I can't even see.

If you are just deleting them from your iPod (in manual mode for example), then fine. But it sounded like we were talking about deleting all the pictures from the Itunes library so they wouldn't take up space on the iPod, which means you can enjoy the artwork when you use the songs in iTunes either.

I deleted the fairly small amount of artwork I had collected, from both iTunes and iPod. I spend very little time actually listening to music in iTunes so the artwork does me no good. And I just didn't want to have to worry about keeping the artwork in iTunes and not on the iPod. Much easier not to fuss with it at all.
