I got a lovely new G4, but knew my sister would enjoy my G3, so it is now hers. Last night I was trying to get her set up on Juno and it seemed like it would be a good idea to remove my name as Admin on the machine and let her be the sole Admin. Well, I added her, but can't remove myself. It is using 10.1 and when I tried to install a dowloaded security update, it kept failing because it was trying to go to my profile instead of hers.

I guess the question is - how can I clean out all my data and re-set up with all her data? Do I need to reinstall 10.1?

Thank you. BTW - Juno works, so she is connected, I am just concerned in case she needs to download anything - I think it will fail. I apologize for how poorly explained this problem is - I don't know what info is important.

She's too happy!

Nice to see some familial generosity. I'm slightly confused though, when you log in using her account you're not able to delete the remaining admin account (your old one) right? Becuase obviouslly you cannot delete an account you are logged in under.

My initial thought is - upgrade to Jag, either archive all old accounts, or just do a clean sweep and start from scratch. All those old G3s work so much better under Jag, and I have also succesfully deleted admin accounts, including the original admin account (ie the one which originallly was created on the installl) in Jaguar. Why it won't do this under 10.1 I don't know.

Upgrade now before she has used it too heavily, that way you could do a clean Jag install - and you don't need to worry about your old data.

Assuming you can't upgrade, because you don't have the disks, or your new Jag system disk is DVD, and your old G3 won't run it, so you have to use 10.1, then try to delete the old admin account when logged in as root. You'll have to enable the root account, but there are many instructions about how to do that, and the slight danger which accompanies it.

Also, make sure you have already made her an admin before deleting your account. You can't delete an admin account unless there is another admin account on the machine.

Thank you for the replies. I think I will have her go to Jag. One of the main reasons I got my G4 was frustration at running 10.1 on the 266 G3! So now I gave her the frustration, but she's not as impatient as I am.

So we will switch to Jag and hope all this trouble goes away.

Thanks again!

She's too happy!
