When I open System Preferences and select Sharing, then click on Remote Login, the words fade. Then when I quit System Preferences and open it again, the box is no longer checked. I CAN'T ENABLE REMOTE LOGIN ANYMORE. how can I fix this?

Do the sshd logs or does the Console give any indication as to the problem?

had this same problem on an imac that was up for 113 days,
sadly, a restart fixed the problem on the first try.

Neither of these give any indication and a restart did not fix the problem
