Hey there. I'm new to the world of Mac (12"PB) and wanted to do my first backup on a CD today. It turns out that this nice disc burning utility that should (I guess?) have been shipped with my combo-drive is missing.
Can anyone tell me where to download it? I've checked Apple.com but couldn't find it.
Many thanks, and sorry for this stupid question. Cheers!

The disc burning utility that ships with all Macs is called "Disc Copy", and it should be in Applications > Utilities.

If it isn't there, I could email you a copy of it.

Also, if you just insert a blank disk, the Mac will ask you what to do with it.

If you select the option to open the Finder (the file management utility), it will appear on your desktop as a regular disk.

you can then drag anything you want onto it, and when you eject it, your computer will ask if you want to burn the disk.

It really could not be simpler - no utilities needed, no downloads.

Just works.

thanks, zachs, for the help. I got disk copy from a friend now and it works just as it's supposed to. I only wonder why it wasn't there in first place?

are you sure that it is not there, it should be in Applications/Utilities/.

As probably mentioned before the Finder can burn CDs itself, just stick a CD in it will ask what you want to do, if you choose Finder then the CD will mount on the desktop adn you can simply drag stuff into it and when you are happy choose burn form the toolbar or the File menu...
