1. open "Disk Utility" in Applications-->Utilities

2. Select your disk at the left

3. Chose the "Partition" tab

4. Knock yourself out

Now if only OS X had a utility to partiton your drive without reformatting it...

I know such utilities exist for Wintel.
Be happy.

They do exist for the Mac; they just don't come from Apple.

One example is Partition Toolkit. Not sure if you need to run this one under MacOS 9 or if it runs under MacOS X (but you certainly can use it on MacOS X disks/partitions so long as your Mac will boot MacOS 9).

According to the web page you linked to (bottom right corner) you do have to run it in OS 9 (doesn't work in Classic). It's a shame there is still no way of doing this natively in OS X.

But as you said, it will certainly work for OS X HFS+ formatted hard disks, so long as you don't mind booting into OS 9 to do it (and your computer can actually boot into OS 9).

Did you boot up from an installer CD?

You cannot partition your system disk when you are running off that same disk!

You need to start-up from the OS X CD to do this. Put the OS X install CD in your computer and restart holding down C. After the restart Disk utility should be under the File menu. You will lose all your data when you partion.

I think....
Could care less about tact..
