i downloaded an app, labeled ".jar". it won't open with a dbl-click, it's looking for "jar launcher" (which is not on my mac, and i can't find)

if i unstuff it i get lots of files; seems like the components of an app.

any ideas? what is jar launcher?

Jar launcher IS on your system.
/System/Library/CoreServices/Jar Launcher.app
It's installed by default on every copy of OS X.

i see that it IS there (tho i did not find it in a search)

doesn't open the ".jar" file i downloaded...but looking into it.

Maybe your jar has some windows specific code in it or something?
