hi im passing my ibook on and have already removed my account and created a new adminstrator account for the new owner -(and rewitten over the harddrive - before anyone suggest it to wipe out any personal data lurking there)

BUT my computer still thinks its called SIMON GARDENER's COMPUTER - on log in and in the finder at the level where you are looking at your hard drive and network icon

any ideas short of a complete reinstall of the operating system and then having to download and reinstall the updates?

cheers

simon

Open System Preferences and go to the Sharing pane. You can change your computer's name from there.

If you go to System Preferences > Sharing, you can change computer name in there.

I used to have a computer name with an accent on it (ó). I've sinced change that since some apps complain. the interesting issue is, during verbose restart, I notice that in some paths the machine's name is listed as having that accented character still. It acually shows something like %@o or something like that, but not a simple "o".

Weird.
