What's the best app for benchmarking computer performance - and is fair on dual processor machines? (Shouldn't every benchmarking app spawn at least two threads?)

I want to see how my G4/533 DP stacks up against more recent Mac's - and it's pointless comparing benchmarks made when the 533 DP was released - most of them were done in OS 9 and show little - if any - advantage from the 2nd processor...

A timer. The best way to benchmark is to try stuff you do and use. Time them on your machine. Then find an access to a newer model and time again doing the same things. In order to be able to have meaningfull values each test should at least be timed three times.
