Ok, just started delving into X11 and Fink. Installed X11 and Fink, followed the instructions to run dselect. Installed gimp. Despite all the documentation, I cannot for the live of me figure out how to run apps installed by Fink. Nothing in the cli help mentions anything about executing apps. I know I got gimp installed okay...I just can't run it! Sorry for what is probably an FAQ, I'm just frazzled after a long week...Many thanks in advance!

Open either an xterm from x11 or just the Terminal.app from Applications/Utilities/Terminal

Then at the prompt type `gimp' without the quotes. If that doesn't work type `/sw/bin/gimp/ If that doesn't work post any output you get here.

Good luck - Michael

Make sure you have /sw/bin/ in your PATH

use setenv if you are using tcsh (the default)
I never use tcsh/csh so I can't remember
the exact syntac for setenv but it should be like this

setenv PATH $PATH:/sw/bin/

if you are using bash or sh then do the following

export PATH=$PATH:/sw/bin/

After installing Fink, you have to set up your environment to be able to correctly run Fink packages from the Terminal window. This is in the Fink user's guide: http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/user...tall.php#setup
