Please excuse my ignorance as to pretty much all Unix issues, but I'm a total newbie trying to get to grips with everything...
Ok, my problem, I want to install Gnome.
I have installed Fink Commander, I have installed Xdarwin/x86 (version 4.2), and can run it in both full screen and rootless modes without problem.
I have a CD that came with a 'teach yourself Unix for OS X' book , and on it is a copy of 'Gnome_Core', with instructions on installation and usage of Gnome.
I ran the app, and it said I was missing core files, so I went to Fink and downloaded "Bundle- Gnome" and installed it without problem.
I still get issues with the installation... it says I need 'PKG_CONFIG' installed. I have again gone to fink and downloaded and installed a file of this name, but still no go...
It says that it needs 'gdk-pixbuf-2.0' to install... I can't find it anywhere and am about to give up...
Am I doing things totally wrong? Do I have the wrong install files?
Any help would be appreciated as it begining to drive me mad!
Cheers,
Marc
