When trying to rip a CD in iTunes I experienced a huge slowdown. I ran "top" in the finder to see what process was hogging the processor. The finder was using 40-90 percent of the CPU, it is normally 0.00 percent. Once I actually saw it go up to 105 percent! I killed the finder and when it relaunched it still used a large percent of the processor.

I moved com.apple.finder.plist to the trash and relaunched the finder. The problem appeared to be fixed and I started to restore all my lost view settings. As soon as i turned back on "Show item info" on the desktop the processor usage shot up again. It remained high even after I turned it off.

Anybody else seen this? If anybody knows what could cause this and what I could to to fix it I would greatly appreciate it.
