I want to backup al my music. I know that you can burn playlists...but if i want to burn my entire music library, how would i go about doing so? I have entered all my artist and album information in iTunes, so i don't want to copy all the MP3's to a blank disc (without using iTunes). Another words, I want to burn it thru iTunes (to keep this information intact).

any help would be greatly appreciated

Well, all the info you entered in iTunes is stored in the ID3 tag of the MP3, so you can just burn them all in Toast if you want. You could copy the MP3s to another computer, and when you import the MP3s all of the info about song/artist/etc will be imported as well, as they are in the MP3. Yes, iTunes has a library file, but my understanding is that the file is just the iTunes database which aids in searches within the program. But the song info you are interested in preserving stays with the MP3.

Yeah, the MP3 holds the track, artist, etc. information. The iTunes music library file just keeps track of what songs are imported into iTunes, which you can fix with a click of a button really, and your playlists and what they contain.

These 2 files:
iTunes 4 Music Library &
iTunes Music Library.xml

Carry all the rest of the information like playcount, rating, lastplayed...etc They also carry all your playlists. Backup these files regularly.

Note that if you have edited any of the track metadata (=ID3 tags) in iTunes, those changes will NOT be saved back out to the original MP3 files unless you do so specifically!

To do this, go to your library, select all, and choose Advanced -> Convert ID3 tags.

Choose 2.4.

Then you can back up the MP3 files with the ID3 data intact, whether or not you burn with iTunes, Toast, or the Finder.
