In the two months I've been using OS X Jaguar I experienced kernel panic three times: each time it happened when sending an email with attachment(s) from the Mail app.
The attachments I tried to send were 100-300 Kb RGB Photoshop JPGs.
- drag a JPG file onto Mail app icon in Dock
- Compose message window opens with the attachment(s) in place
- fill in the address (to) field
- write the message above the attached image
- click the Send button
- the message is being sent
- *when the bar in the activity window reaches about 30%, KERNEL PANIC message occurs insisting that I restart the computer*
When the machine reboots the message sits in the Out mailbox and when I open the message and send it again it works without problems. Kernel panic occurs only the first time I try to send certain messages.
This happens randomly which really confuses me since there is nothing different about the attachments or the sending procedure of the messages that have caused kernel panic from those that haven't.
Also, after the last kernel panic occurence something weird happened to my Desktop pictures functionality: most of the default desktop pictures - all PNG files (all tiled solids and wide screen photos from the Library>Desktop pictures) appear banded (subtle regular tight vertical bands of light and dark shade of the pic) when I apply them to desktop from Desktop control panel in System preferences. Swatches in Desktop control pannel look perfectly OK. I also checked the picture files in Library>Desktop pictures by opening them in Preview and they look intact. It is just when I apply them to desktop they become banded. JPG files seem to work fine and PNG files appear banded.
I ran Disk utility, corrected privileges but nothing works for either problem.

how do you connect to the Net ?
Have you reported this to Apple ?
Next time you're having the problem be sure to write down stack trace so you can repport this to apple.
To repport bugs to apple use bugreport.apple.com, you will need to be registered has a developper, but that is Free.

I use a PB 17"/Jaguar with an USB DrayTek MiniVigor 128 ISDN modem.
I have not installed any 3rd party System or Mail add ons except for the OS X MiniVigor driver.
Receving mail works without a glitch as well as surfing and downloading with Safari.
Before I used a PM G4/OS 9.2.2/Entourage with the same modem and never had any trouble.
Thanks.

Ding ding ding. I think we have a winner.
Send the panic log (should be in /Library/Logs/ when you come back up) to the driver vendor with as much information as possible.

Thanks for the suggestion, but some of my friends are using the same USB modem and system setup and it works OK for them.
The only difference we could pinpoint so far is that I have an account with a different ISP.
I just made a new account with the same ISP my friends are using and now we'll se what happens. Or rather, let's hope it doesn't happen ever again! Kernel panic, that is
Oh, by the way, neither of the aforementioned crashes has left any logs whatsoever!
