OK, why is it that sometimes when I log in, the Speech is activated and shown in the Login Items prefs as a Startup Item, when I have not selected it as a Startup Item?

This happens to me often in 10.2.6. It seems once a few day ago, I activated it, then turned it off, and now it almost always comes on when I log in. Wierd.
