For the last two days now, I have not been able to copy and paste items in any application to any application (including the original application the item was copied from). Also I cannot drag items from one application to another, ie dragging a folder from the finder onto a terminal window to get that path, or dragging a URL from Safari into Adium to send my friend a link. Also, when moving items in Photoshop by clicking and dragging, the item does not move along with the mouse, it simply reappears wherever I let go of the mouse.
Has anyone had this happen to them before? I'm running 10.2.6 on a two week old 15" Powerbook. How can I fix this?

(1) have you logged out and/or restarted recently?
(2) have you run a disk repair utility recently?
(3) have you repaired permissions recently?
(4) have you added any "haxies" or similar recently?
I think these four steps should be your first attempt to fix almost any problem you encounter.

I have restarted twice. Have not run disk repair utility nor have I run repair permissions. I have not installed any haxies or similar items. I shall go try steps two and three and report back.

Update:
Repairing permissions did nothing. After a few kernal panics from trying to restart from a 10.2 CD to run first aid, upon my next restart drag and drop worked, as did copy paste. But I also noticed that my auto-spell check wasn't working (had realized this earlier but it didn't click with me then) and then when I went to the services menu from any app, no sub-menu appears. I highlight services, and nothing happens. So my services are dead. So I found my Powerbook software DVD and restarted, ran the permissions check and the disk repair (it said the volume was fine anyway) and restarted. Still no services. So I just ran the 10.2.6 combo updater again, as Mac OS X Hints had recommended. Upon my latest restart, not only are services still MIA, but drag & drop and copy/paste are gone again as well. I also tried deleting a certain cache file per MacOSXHints.com instructions, still no go.
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated, I can't believe I'm having so much trouble with this!

No good. And to add insult to injury, whenever I try to drag an item in Illustrator, it immediately quits on me.
What a drag.

'Nother update. Cleared the cache in /Library, not ~/Library, then restarted. Drag and drop from the finder to the terminal seems to be working, but not from safari to adium, and copying and pasting will not work anywhere. Services are still a no go altogether. Who knows if change was due to emptying cache, or just the restart, or some random x factor.
