How do you change the window manager
for KDE? It is currently using quartz-wm
and I wan't it to use the standard kwin.

Any help?

Do you have ~/.xinitrc? If so, edit that and change the line exec quartz-wm to quartz-wm --only proxy. This is keep the cut and paste capabilities of quartz but disable the window manager. KDE sould then launch kwin when you exec startkde.

If you do not have ~/.xinitrc, then drop a note and will guuide you.

I found the problem in /sw/bin/startkde

there was the following code

# if we're in Apple's X11 and the native window manager is available, use that
if test -z "$KDEWM" && test -x /usr/X11R6/bin/quartz-wm; then
KDEWM="/usr/X11R6/bin/quartz-wm"
fi

It was checking if quartz-wm existed and
used it. I commented it out and now kde
uses kwin instead of quartz-wm by default

I also changed startkde to accept an option
called -wm="wm name" so I can easily choose
between window managers.

Hey, but thanx about the quartz-wm --onlyproxy
tip. that is real cool

And thanks for passing on what you discovered. New to me and useful.
