Called Apple on this, no help. Using OS 10.2.2 with mail client 1.2.2 (v549/548).

Most of the time when we attempt to send mail we get an error message to the effect of "mail server could not recognize the receipant..." Oddly this was rare when we first started using OSX but it predominates now. It is not a problem with a certain set of email addresses. It happens with known good, valid addresses. I've never seen this problem using Eudora in OS 7 - 9.

we have 3 accounts in one domain you know: "yournamehere@yourdomain.whatever". One for each family member.

Newly composed mail will just sit in the Out box. Oddly sometimes I can "trigger" it to send. Once, while on the phone w/ Apple, I changed the "account" (the dropdown box below the TO/From/Subject area) and all the mail in the Out box went. The Apple guy was surprised too. Another time I was able to send by selecting "redirect message." These "solutions" do not seem to work consistantly.

I simply do not see any configuration problems, email spelling problems, or a pattern that might be the source of all this.

try setting authentication (in outgoing mail server options) to "None" for those accounts.

I strongly suspect it's not an issue with mail -- it's an issue with your account settings in some shape or form -- or the email address you're trying to send to.

I'd suggest deleting and recreating the accounts. If you're using POP you may want to copy the messages out of your inboxes to backup folders because Mail often deletes those when you delete POP accounts.
