I have a 30gb drive in my TiBook. I have a 2G iPod with about 7.5gb of Mp3s. Is there a way to keep using my iPod with my PB but erase the MP3 files off of my Ti? That could save me nearly 1/3 of my drive space! Any solutions?

Wow I didn't know they made a 2 GB iPod. That's pretty amazing that you managed to get 7.5 gb of music on there

It depends. Are you adding music to your collection with any frequency? You could look into a 20 GB 2.5" FireWire HD. It would be bus-powered, and you could probably get one for <$100 on eBay.

You should be able to keep your music collection on your iPod alone (and not on your TiBook) and still be able to listen to your music on your TiBook through your iPod (when connected of course). My girlfriend has a 20G iPod, and a Graphite iBook. She has about 15G of music on her iPod, and keeps none on her iBook. When she wants to liseten to something on her iBook, she just connects the iPod.

I would strongly suggest that you have some sort of backup of your music if you're going to do this. iPods are rugged, but something that gets that much use and abuse is going to run into more problems than usual. If for some reason your iPod gets funked, your music is gone.

In iTunes, it is very easy to archive your compressed music to optical media (DVDs on a SD mac, or CDs). This is well worth doing as a backup for all that ripping.
