One of the items you can put in the toolbar on finder windows looks like an iMac and takes you to a folder that lists all the connected volumes. I would find it invaluable to have this in my dock, but I haven't had any luck putting it there. Anyone been able to do this?

Well here's a wild stab in the dark. Can you put the Volumes folder in the dock? Or maybe make an alias to it first so you can give it a nice icon.

Not tried myself though...

P.S. Well I just tried that, and it comes up as empty. I really should check these things before opening my big gob...

You'll have to put aliases of all local drives into that folder. All other volumes should automatically mount into that folder.

But if no finder window is open clicking on the finder icon in the dock will open a new window at "computer" (or at the home folder - depending on the setting in the finder preferences).

Yeah but it's useful when the finder crashes to still ber able to navigate the filesystem via the dock.

yeah mine is only around some of the time. It used to be that it would open every time I mounted a volume but that all stopped at some point. Now I have no idea what it's up to. I vaguely remember it saying something about an extended vacation in Europe...
