Do you think your OS X is snappy/responsive? (not talking about things like rendering speed etc., just UI responsiveness)

Yes, I'd answer but this feels like somehow the mouse is responsible.

No, of course the mouse is not responsible for it. Just answer the question.

My machine (iMac 800) feels pretty snappy, the multi-button mouse with scrollwheel helped improve productivity quite a bit.

My dual gig hums along nicely, thank you.

My Cube is starting to show its age, however. (somebody wanna spot me the $750.00 I need for a processor and video card upgrade?)

Don't think too much about the mouse thing. Just answer whether you think your OS X feels pretty responsive or rather slowish.

My dual 1.25 loads Photoshop in 6.5sec. Safari
launches and loads my GoogleNews homepage
in 3.5sec. To me that's pretty 'snappy'. All this with a lowly stock optical Apple mouse. I lay awake nights thinking about a scroll wheel and second button. Imagine the speed!

That's benchmarking. With snappy I mean more like has it a fast and fluid feeling? Does it feel responsive?
That's not necessarily app launch time, render times, file copy times etc.

Ehh, my DP1250 loads photoshop in 15 secs, ~6.5 secs on second launch (since it is cached).

UI is quite snappy though. Except for window resizing. Stupid window resizing.

My iBook is snappy with both the builtin trackpad and Kensington Turboball (I use both about equally).

Don't tell me to "not think about it", you asked the question! Why do you care what the mouse is? If the mouse doesn't matter, why ask? I demand to know!!!!!

It's got the Snap in its step, for sure.

OS X is still slower than OS 9 by a fair margin regardless of the pointing device I use, even the middle one :0

Not bad here, responsive enough.

Pismo 400 with 768mb ram and a logitech 3 button mouse.

Never tried Apple's mouse and the trackpad is never as good as the mouse.

Hey Developer, are you going to let us in on your secret eventually or what? This poll has soundly demonstrated that more people have multibutton mice and Apple pro-mice. Incredible.

OK, here's the secret behind this poll:

I have a cheap mouse (one with a ball) just for the scrollwheel. I got hooked to the scrollwheel and used it for a few months now. But I got problems with my hand and hat to go back to the single button mouse.
The first few minutes with the Apple Pro mouse was like - wow. The mouse slided so fluently over the desk it was like hovering over it. And everything felt so smooth.

So I thought I make it a poll and see if that yields some results:

24% of Apple Pro mouse users think their system is slowish.
18% of third party mouse users think their system is slowish.

So it's actually the other way around. But I don't think the difference is significant with so few votes. And of course the poll would only work if computer speeds would distribute evenly between the mouse groups. It might be that "pro" users buy faster Macs and that they also buy multi button mouse (I think pro users are also the reason why in this pro user's forum are more third party mouse users than usual).
And of course it is not sure that the third party mouses are all worse than Apple's (in fact it's probably hard to find such a cheap thing like mine).

I still think it would be interesting to investigate the effect of the mouse on perceived speed under controlled conditions (same Mac, same display resolution, same acceleration curve).

TiBook 500 MHz 768 MB RAM
iMac 233 MHz 512 MB RAM
iMac 400 MHz 1024 MB RAM

All have 10.2.6 installed.

Using:
Kensington Orbit (trackball)
iMac Bondi Blue "Puck"
MacAlly one button mouse
Logitech MX 700
Logitech Cordless MouseMan Optical
Wacom Tablet
Trackpad (TiBook)

Don't understand what the hell makes the difference in mouse using concerning "snappy"TM.

I know these machines are quite a bit old, but even on a friends PowerMac 867 MHz G4 "snappy"TM is a joke, specially comparing to OS 9.

I do love OS X for its obvious reasons, but every time I read somewhere about "snappy"TM I either laugh or cry...

P.S. I did not vote, since there's no option for me

Slow with 3rd party mouse, but that's due to my old iMac 400.
