Here is my problem:
I have osx on my ibook, my main machine in all cases. I also have an older mac running OS9. Both of these computers work fine with my cable connection, which connects them through my SMC wireless/wired router. Now, my issue comes in with transferring files back and forth from my ibook running OSX to my older mac running OS9. I have a folder called "files" and this folder constitutes all the updates/new applications that I have installed and I keep them as back up so in case I ever need access to them and I am without a connection. There are other folders/files I back up to the old mac running os9 as well. My issue is that anytime a file coming from OSX and going to OS9 has too long of a file name, the transferring process stops and I'm told that the file name is too long. But why can't OSX automatically truncate the file name or a dialog box comes up asking me to rename it, without stopping the transfer. It's not like this is one or two files and then I don't know which files have been transferred over correctly and which haven't, so when I go and fix the file name, I have to restart over and transfer the files again. It's bothersome. Are there any apps that can help with this, or is there any thing within osx or using the unix terminal that I can utilize to help me with this?
Light unix commands, I am in no way an expert with it, but I am slowly accepting using it more and more.
Thank you for any help.
