The hard drive on my G4 is completely filled up. I've purchased a bigger bootable FireWire drive, and would like to copy the whole disk onto the new one. In the days of Classic OS, all I had to do was select all and drag them onto the new disk. This method in Finder screws up the ownership and protection in OS X. I also tried to use UNIX tar; it had problems with "too long link" and seemed to screw up the resource files. javascript :smilie(' ')
What is the best way to copy the system and all the data? Thanks for your help!

My recommendation would be Carbon Copy Cloner v2.2...it has worked flawlessly for me.

I second the above. I recently used Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer the contents of my hard drive to a Firewire drive, and it worked just fine. The Firewire is now my boot disk.
