My brother and I are new to file sharing. I connect to my brother's computer just fine. My brother, on the other hand, keeps getting the message: "error = 36". Can somebody please tell me what error = 36 means?

Have you checked the firewall settings? Are you set to "Using DHCP" on both machines in TCP/IP Settings? You may want to try setting your TCP/IP settings to manual. Put IP address on yours to 10.0.1.1 subnet to 255.255.255.0. Then on your brithers, set the IP to 10.0.1.2 same subnet.

A -36 error is an I/O error. What operating systems are you using?

I'm actually having the same problem on one of my machines. I'm running a studio of 8 machines, all running 10.2.6 with virtually identical installs. I'm running a DHCP server that is assigning IP's to each of the machines. Everything works swell except ONE; This machine shows up in the "connect to" list on any of the others, but when you highlight it, where usually the IP address shows up with afp://, etc. you do not always get anything for this machine. And when it does (or I type it in manually) I get the standard "connecting to server" window, with "an error occurred (error = -36)."

Any thoughts? I've tried giving it a dedicated IP within the spectrum that the DHCP is giving out, allowing it to be automatically assigned, and changing ALL machines over to manual assigned IP's, and still to no avail. All other connections (including those made FROM the problem machine to other nodes on the network) work great...

(full disclosure: I'm also running the Sharepoints PrefsPane to allow non-admin users to login into the second Project Drive... this two is the same on all machines though.)
