Well I've had this installation for a while, since the PB infact.

i have a Logitech mouse, I had an microsoft one prior, Alcatel USB modem from hell, all of these drivers I thought hacked fairly deep into OS X's inner workings - deep enough to cause proplems, at any rate.

Also I've various add-ons like Fruit |Menu, WindowShade X, etc. I can't remember them all, but some of these have had a finger of suspicion pointed at them, though not by me.

But I guess i've just stumbled on an unhappy combination...

I just know that I have an OS that I can freeze on a daily basis and I'm fed up.

Just in case anyone's interested, i've made some progress.

I made a new user and that user was not subject to these freezes.

The file responsibe for my misery was in Users/Library. I removed this entire folder and now everything is hunky dory.

I'm now relacing the files a few at a time. (oh for Labels in OS X :-|)

I suspect either a corrupt preference or cache was responsible. i'm still surprised this could wreak so much havoc under OS X. I'm leaning towards preference file as I'd already used Cocktail several times (for clearing caches, amongst other things...)

I may try to find out exactly which file is responsible, but as I'm having to boot into 9 to get round permissions, it's all a bit long-winded....

Any ideas?
