I was playing with terminal.app and ran top and found I have 4 occurances of nfsiod and 2 occurances of netinfod currently running. I've tried killing them all except one occurance each but logging out and back in, they return. Strange. Does anyone have any ideas why?

If (like me) you don't know a whole lot about unix background processes, you might find this page useful.

Briefly:

nfsiod - handles Network File System Requests. It is normal to have multiple nfsiod processes.

netinfod - "Serves out NetInfo data. There will be one of these processes for each NetInfo domain served from the computer (normally just one, for the local domain)." In other words, you probably have another domain being served from your mac for some reason.

I expect someone who actually knows something about this stuff will give a more accurate & informative response though
