Hi all,
I have a school project I need to do where I have to help write a bluetooth driver for the Linux kernel. I figured it would be nice to work on my pbook, so I am trying to figure out if I can install/run Linux PPC on a firewire drive. I would much rather buy a $50 fw enclosure dedicated to Linux than backup all my data and repartition my drive and dual boot. Is there a way to install/run Linux PPC on a firewire drive?
Thanks in advance.

I had read that it wasn't possible on some outdated webpages and was hoping it was possible now.
Instead how does this setup sound? I use carbon copy cloner to backup my current HD to a firewire drive, and then install Linux on my internal notebook HD. What I am afraid of is that once I install Linux on the internal notebook harddrive, I will be unable to boot back into OSX on my external firewire drive. I can specify which drive to boot off of in OSX through the "Startup Disk" program, but can I do the same in Linux, or is there some sorta BIOS / hardware way to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe, just maybe, you could install it on an internal HD, then move it to a FireWire drive. Then, in theory, you could boot from it using target FireWire mode but thats a loooooong shot.

it's a slow way of doing things but couldn't you boot from the Gentoo CD, mount your OSX volume and work in a subdir? The system would not be very fast but it would save you the cost of the extra drive... slow as h*** though

Me too. Would it be possible on a PC? Are there any PCs that can boot from firewire drives?
