I believe you can use a POP server only if you have a paid subscription to Yahoo.

Yeah, only if you pay for the subscription mail service. I think they used to offer this... back when they had free voice mail and 20 MB mailboxes. Ah... the good old days of Yahoo.

You can purchase POP3 access as part of Yahoo! Mail Plus for $20 a year.

Or you can use SSPI's Mail Forward to forward your Yahoo! mail account mail to another POP account.

Hi!

There's a program called "Mail Forward" (found it on versiontracker) that can forward mail from your Yahoo account to a POP account (if you have one). It expires after a trial period, though, if you don't register.

It's called httpmail. I know that because I've had it installed for a few months, but never used it. Couldn't get it to work right with hotmail. YMMV.

My name's ...uh... it's a bummer man.

I regularly use httpmail to check my Hotmail account. I don't think it supports Yahoo!.

There is a command line program similar to fetchmail called fetchYahoo that might be what you are looking for. It goes out, grabs the mail, and then forwards it to a POP (or mailspool, etc) account. Then you can pick it back up from within the mail application of your choice.

I use fetchmail to consolidate all of my mail boxes onto an IMAP server that I run.

Here is a quick link to the porject page over at freshmeat.net (versiontracker for UNIX):

I think this is actually what you're looking for.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/yahoopops/

What it does is simulate a POP3 server so that you can connect to Yahoo with Mail, Eudora, Outlook, whatever.

I dont know what everyone is talking about, I pick up my Yahoo mail using mail.app, I dont pay anything.

I have joined www.yahoo.co.uk, so this might make a difference.

They help section gave me a Popmail and an smtp address and it works fine.

The SMTP service is not that reliable though.

Try this in mail app.

............................................

Here are the basic server settings for Yahoo! Mail:

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk (use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.co.uk")
Email Address: your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., user@yahoo.co.uk)
Password: your Yahoo! Mail password
