Anyone have this problem? I have a HP 1200 all in one, and in 10.2.6 both the updater and installer freeze upon starting the installation to a spinny wheel. The reason I'm trying to install/upgrade is because it only prints half the time, and very slowly.. thanks guys

Hello I have a similar problem, I cannot get the installer to work, I enter password and just comes to the first dialog and then nothing happens. I send you a link to another forum that discussed this problem. I havenīt been able to solve the problem so far..

Hello BurpetheadX!

From TomMox

Below is a collection of several discussions on the topic:

Package installation failures

this error message appears on Console whenever attempting to launch an installer package. All my package installs since updating to 10.2.4 have failed. Can anyone please explain this situation?

Installer[611] *** -[NSPackageController setRunLoopModes:]: selector not recognized

Did you ever find out what was wrong? This error is now happening to me, on a system just upgraded from 10.2.1 to 10.2.6.

I was running 10.2.5 on a 500 G3 Powerbook (Firewire) and about a week ago I used Software Update to go to 10.2.6. Shortly thereafter I fell victim to what I think was a memory leak in the 10.2.6 update, and the computer became unusably slow (roughly 45 minutes to boot up, applications took forever, etc.), so I did an archive and install of 10.2 from the original CD. That worked great and I'm using 10.2, except for now the Installer doesn't work. That is, any .pkg files or whatever that I want to install (like printer drivers, or the combo update to 10.2.5) - they open up in the Installer, and I go through the several steps, agree to the liscense thing, select a destination disk, click "Install" and just nothing happens. It doesn't freeze or anything, just nothing happens. I usually quit the Installer at that point. Also, Software Update DOES work - I used it to upgrade Safari and it worked fine, but I can't install anything lower than 10.2.6 with that, and of course that caused the original problem. And I can't use Software Update to install my printer drivers. Any help would be most appreciated.

P.S., on startup in 10.2, after my desktop has come up and everything, I now get an Application Launch Failure, saying that "The application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "8<Transport Monitor><Transport Monitor><HotSyncLib.PPC><>" This has only happened since I did the archive and install, and I have no idea if it has anything to do with the Installer issues.

P.S. again - I've been hearing that some people are having issues with 10.2.6, any word on whether Apple is doing anything about it?

For some reason installer always quits unexpectedly when I try to install something. Software Update also refuses to work. Does anyone have any idea what may cause this to happen. I have tried logging in as a different administrative User to install but the installer still quits.

what happens with software updater?

Try repairing permissions, running a disk utility of some kind, that sort of thing. Also try deleting the plist files for the installer.

Software update searches for new software and then gives a message " An unexpected error has occured". Likewise with Installer after giving my password it suddenly crashes with the message "Installer has unexpectedly quit"
I did run the Repair Permissions utility but it didn't help.

I recently deleted some files from the reciepts folder when I was uninstalling a printer RIP . Is it possible I may have inadvertently deleted a necessary file?

Thanks

yea I remember someone else had that problem, something about that folder eh.

I think they had to reinstall OS X, pretty sure they got away with an archive and install, thus saving them a good deal of time. Download drivers before you do though , after install run software update a few times, it'll probably make you reboot after the first upgrade you should run it until it doesn't have anything new. Then run it after your next reboot just to make sure.

Sorry but what do you mean by archive and install? Can I reinstall OSX 10.2 over 10.2.5 without erasing the disk ?

when you go to install OS X from the CD, it will tell you you can't install OS X without changing your options, there should be an options button on the lowwer section of the instaler window, clicking that will bring up a window with some, well, options. One is archive and install. This keeps your user set up, and prefs and all that.
