I have a first generation blueberry iBook 300 MHz (OC'd to 400 MHz) 288 mb ram and a 20 gig hard drive and the retail version of Jaguar, the problem is, the internal CD drive doesn't work anymore, and the damn thing only has USB and ethernet for input sources.
Is there anyway I can get Jag on this thing???
Is there a copy I can download of Acisition or something? (It's not pirating, I own the damn disk, and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay apple a few hundred bucks to fix it.)
I tried install it via a USB CD Drive and it wouldn't work, I would restart using the disk, get the Apple and then get the question mark.

Find a friend with a working Mac. Boot your iBook into target disk mode (hold the T key down at boot until the firewire symbol appears). Connect it to your friend's Mac and use his/her machine to install OS X on your iBook hard drive.

He doesn't have a firewire port.
Your only solution is to get a USB CD drive that works.

Or replace the CD drive. You can get a new one on places like pbparts.com.

Thats where I got my Power adapter after the first one failed! I was thinking of doing that or a using a CD-RW drive, but tearing the ibook a part is such a major pain in the ass!
Art Vandelay, are you saying that a USB drive should work? I used a USB drive to install most of my progams, (Office, etc...) but I'm not sure if it will let me update my OS.

I don't think a USB CD drive will be helpful to you unless you can boot from it. You need to boot from the Jaguar CD to install the software.

Yes, you should be able to boot from a USB CD drive provided you have a bootable CD, such as the Mac OS X Install CDs.

Theres also a very good chance the computer wont install or boot properly with an overclocked processor. Often if the chips dont read as the system rom says it should it probably won't work. I know my friend had A blue and White tower that he overclocked and it didnt boot after he insttalled.... You might want to think about that as well.
