Sudden shutdowns using Photoshop

In the last two days, my Emac OSX has been shutting down suddenly without notice, usually when I'm in the midst of using Photoshop Elements to edit or print photos. The screen goes dark and the printer (Epson 825) goes down at the same time, but not the other lamps etc. plugged into the surge protector. When I turn the Emac on again, it starts right up as though nothing had gone wrong -- without any kind of disk scanning or error message. Does anyone know what I should do, or how much of a problem this is? I'd appreciate any help you can give.

Are you a switcher from Windows? I ask because MacOS X never puts up a disk scanning notice like Windows does.

Your problem sounds strange, but it's probably your system, not Photoshop.

Although I don't have any specific solutions, I would suggest you repair permissions to possible help prevent the crashing.

Ok, this is weird. A coworker of mine was just explaining to me pretty much this exact problem. (He has a Quicksilver though.) He said he'd be working and all of the sudden it would shut down. He said it happened in a few different apps. He also has 128MB of RAM installed, and I told him that this might be the problem. He has yet to upgrade, so I can't tell you if it was.

How much RAM do you have installed? Could it be a hard drive problem? Run a disk utility and make sure everything is cool.

When my coworker first told me his problem, I was thinking to myself how this is the first time I'd ever heard of anything like that. Maybe it's a power supply problem? I don't know. Tough one.
