my Safari and Word and sometimes Itunes tend to suddenly shut down in the middle of everything. it happens the most with safari. like all the time. it says "this application has unexpectedly quit" and it's not related to where i am or what i'm doing in any of these applications. also i have a 17 inch imac. what is the problem? help, dude!
also, an unrelated problem. every once in a while, the sound on my Itunes stops. for about 5 seconds, and then it comes back on. but the music doesn't stop during the time that there's no sound...so i get tuned back in five seconds later in the music. i haven't tried making other sounds during those seconds...but it's weird, right? what's the deal?

It might be that those apps "just crashed" and nothing is really wrong with your computer. Safari is still beta and Word is a giant app with millions of lines of code. So both might have some bugs and you use them most often, then that might explain why you see them crash sometimes.
But to find out if there is a problem for those crashes it might help to look at the crash logs in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter (where ~ means your home folder). Maybe if you post the last crashes for Safari and/or Word somebody here might see something suspicious.

Sorry, I don't understand that. I got a headache when I read "music doesn't stop during the time there's no sound".

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

What he was trying to say is that his music will be playing, and then for five musics it will continue to play but no audio will be heard, and then audio will start coming out of his speakers again.
I'm not sure why that would happen... it might be bad speakers or something. I haven't seen it happen on my end.

Five musics. Five seconds? About the iTunes problem, do you notice if the progress bar showing the song time moves during this time? Does your entire computer lock up, or just the music goes unhearable for 5 seconds? Either way, I'll be over tomorrow to fix it.

i had a similar problem a few days ago. Do you use Silk? In my case i found out Silk was the culprit. Disabled it, and the problems were gone. I guess it makes the apps crash with certain settings. It happens when the app tries to substitute the font settings.
