Anybody know where I can find (and delete) the display preferences? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Am I blind or just stupid?

Thanks for that helpful answer. It's much appreciated.
I've found a com.apple.windowserver.plist which lists display-sets including resolutions. I can't seem to find the setting which controls auto-adjusting brightness though (what I am looking for)

Hopefully a more constructive reply than Moose's:
PrefEdit may help you find it, and adjust to taste.
