Holy cow! Right there in the Internal Modem setup in the Network Pref Pane, it has a checkmark for "Notify me of incoming calls while connected to the Internet." I can't call myself here, but I suppose it pops up a little window to tell you someone's calling, and lets you disconnect to get the call.
I can't believe it - this is a feature that even AOL is saying is a really big deal, having advertisements just about this feature along. Why doens't Apple push this feature of Mac OS X a little more? This is the first I had ever heard of it.
What other features does Mac OS X have that are out of the way that many don't know about, like this one?

You mean in panther, right? If so, I'm excited! I've really needed this feature for some time.

You dial up users are all suckers.
Anyway. I would be happier if it just notified you of ANY incoming calls.

No, in Mac OS X 10.2.6. Check it out!
Also, I'm not a dial up user. And I feel bad for all dial-up users, broadband is a really amazing thing.

This was in Jaguar even before 10.2.6. I don't know how far back it goes. But to see it you must have a Mac with a V.92 modem. If you don't see it, it's probably because you have a regular V.90 modem.

I heard that v92's could get up to 15K transfers on adequate phone lines (don't know what spec) ... anyone experience this ?

This capability was introduced hardware-wise with v92 modems. Can't say what version of OS X supports it, but it's been around for a while.

Yeah... this is in the v92 spec. (Evidenced by the fact that if you choose a v90 modem script, you can't select this option)
Not sure, but you also may need to have call waiting for this to work.

Yep , you need all these to get it to work:
V92 modem
Call waiting
ISP with V92 modem support
On a visit to the UK I had 2 out of 3 but trying to find an ISP who supports this was difficult.
Seems like they're not bothering to update their modem equipment since they expect more poeple to go broadband.
