Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has used three screens hooked up to their Mac.

Is it possible to have two mirrored and one 'separate' (what's the word I'm looking for here...?) or do they all have to be 'separate'/mirrored.

Thanks

Good question. I'd like to know too.

I think the term is "spanning" across multiple monitors that are not mirrored. I'm not sure though.

I run a tri-monitor setup and you (currently) cannot mix modes. If you check the "Mirror Display" checkbox... it mirrors to ALL monitors. No way to pick-and-choose for different monitors acting differently.

Sorry...

LightWaver-67,

Ok, thanks anyway. Shame that...

What do you use three screens for out of interest?

i put 6 on a mac IIx once :cD impress your pc friends!
macs have always done this well so you shouldn't have problems with the spanning. too bad you can't mix the mirrored/multiheaded modes though.

What do I need it for...? hehehe... are you serious...?

Well, assuming you are serious, I'll state this: With most "Pro" apps, come a bevy of floating pallets & windows that take-up precious screen real-estate. I have two 19" monitors running at 1600 x 1200 each and a 17" monitor running 1152 x 870.

The smaller (17") monitor is dedicated 100% to iCal at full-screen. I use iCal to manage my personal time, design clients, studio time and gigs (I'm also a musician). One of the 19" displays houses Mail.app which remains open & on-screen 24/7 and it also houses iChat and MSN for me to keep in-touch w/ people during the day. In addition to that monitor being utilized as my "communications" area, it is also the "Pallete" area for most of my design apps.

For example, when I launch Illustrator or Photoshop... ALL the palletes are organized neatly on that monitor, leaving me a clean & large work area of 1600 x 1200 on my primary monitor. That way, I don't need to keep moving windows around to find things. It GREATLY increases productivity.

As you can tell... my "Primary" (center) monitor is may "Work Space". It's where the Image, Illustration or document is displayed full-screen. It's also where I anchor Safari.

One MAJOR advantage is when using FCP... Let me take a moment to do a screenshot of FCP on my system...

hold on...

gotta run.. hope that helped.
