I am considering installing OpenDarwin 6.6.1 on my eMac (mainly for fun) but before I download the CD image, I was hoping that someone could give me some information.
1. I know that OpenDarwin includes XFree but how do you configure it? Does it just go with whatever resolution is set in OpenFirmware?
2. Does sound work in OpenDarwin?
3. Does Fink install and run fine in OpenDarwin? (I know it should but I want to make sure.)
Thanks.

I don't know why you would want to do this. If you want that full Darwin-y goodness, login at the login screen as >console and you're off.

Because I want to evaluate Darwin as a Unix OS. Mac OS X adds a lot of stuff (drivers and such) that Darwin may not have.

this is one of those projects you should just dive into and find out =) i would assume sound would work. Fink is supposed to work with open D, haven't had time to do the exact same thing you're wanting to.
install open darwin, it should setup everything for you, if it boots up to a command line, type 'startx' and Xfree should be off. Xfree takes a lot to configure, but the default config file(s) will get it up and going without a hitch, assuming the install goes fine...
just go for it, a lot of the intricate problems/roadblocks you may face may be unexpected, best thing to do is go as far as you can, then come back here with questions later.
good luck.

Thanks Mike One. I'm probably going to do just that.

nop you need to configure it manually with the files that do configure the beast (read linux Howtos to achieve that).

I don't know but it should.

It should, but if it does not then youo can use darwinports.
Thanks.
