I was wrong. It gave a normal estimate, but has been running for over six hours and still says it has 74 although it hasn't moved for half an hour. I have to transfer about 60 hours of video. Does anyone have any ideas on reducing encoding time. I will do anything.

The clock only moves backwards. Is there no way to import files in DVD format. So far it is 18 hrs for what used to take 3.

The trick with iDVD is to let it do the encoding before hitting the burn button.
The estimated time it gives when you hit burn does not include any remaining encoding time.
iDVD is continually encoding in an attempt to cut this time down, unfortunately if you make any changes it has to start again, it also has to restart when every you open the app/reopen the project.
To find out what status the encoding is at, Hit the 'Customize' button on the main iDVD window (to open the draw), then hit the 'Status' button, the dropdown list should say 'Encoder Status' if it doesn't select it from the drop down. You will then have a list of Assets with a progress bar next to them. This is the assets encoding status, wait for this bar to fill up (unfortunately there is no indication of time) before attempting a DVD Burn.
