In my ~/Library/Mail folder I have two folders nomininally referring to the same account. One of them is named POP-me@pop3.MyISP.com. the other POP-me@pop3@MyISP.com (@ instead of dot). I would think to just delete the incorrectly named one except that is one apparently being use.
POP-me@pop3.MyISP.com was last modified in March.

Mail > Preferences > Accounts only shows one of these accounts.

Having these two folders doesn't seem like a good idea. I will check to see if anything I want to save in the one not being modified (March modified) and delete it.

Is the way to proceed? Is some preferences file going to cause problems or?

I have backed up the whole Mail folder.

Thanks for any advice.

Do you have your account setup as a POP ir IMAP account? How does your ISP's mailserver expect you to handle mail storage?

POP downloads message to you computer and stores them there and deletes them from the server after downloading. IMAP can store messages on the mail server as well as your machine.

Traditionally, IMAP allows you to access your read messages from different machines. There are other differences, but that is the main.

They are all POP. I do however leave them on the server for 30 days so I can read them elsewhere if needed. I also read it occasionally with Entourage. If I remember correctly my ISP doesn't support IMAP or I tried it and found it more trouble than it was worth, probably the latter.

But I don't see how that how that has anything to do with my problem.

I did delete the older version (after backing up), but after looking at the plist am reluctant to change the name of the folder for fear of breaking something. The names appear more than once in the plist.
